How did i get here ?

15 years as a professional fulltime photographer
Portrait photography is where it all started

Making a living...

So after a year of photographing models going to photo group shoots and other events, learning off camera flash and and as much as I could about photography, I took it upon myself to start booking weddings,  having never photographed a wedding before my first one could not come soon enough, and what an amazing experience it was,  that first wedding I photographed on my own turned out to be an absolute success and I have never looked back.

But as time goes on,  we all get older and time to slow down,  but what could I turn my attention to with regards to photography?  "Wildlife" seemed the obvious path for me,  being outdoor active person from walking and climbing around the world,  wildlife just seemed an obvious choice.

and so here i am today...

The humble beginnings

15 years ago I decided to take up photography as a job but never owning a DSLR camera I had a lot to learn,  so I spent a year watching YouTube videos reading books before eventually deciding on my camera,  my choice was the Canon 7D, and with that choice being made all I had to do was decide on what I was going to photograph.

Personally for me it was all about the interaction with the subject and the conection with the camera or the photographer, I strongly believed in order to get the right image, you have to be able to connect with your subject. So portrait photography was my choice, but that was not going to pay the bills so I had sto come up with a plan, and that turned out to be weddings.

Connecting with your subject, the eyes tell the truth...
Paying the bills learning off camera flash and light.

A fresh outlook onto the world

The Learning curve

Without knowing it I was in for a shock, the birds!

Changing colours

Bird identification is a hard subject to grasp, with such slight differances in colours and markings the challange is great.

Experiance

Whilst I may not know all the bird species, I do have the expeiance as a photographer, light compostion, settings with a good understanding of the great outdoors.

My Wildlife Future

So as I continue to learn about the birds and the bees and all things wildlife, I feel that I have now reached a stage where can share my knowledge about photography and the great outdoors with others like your self.

From here I will be creating various wildlife trips/workshops that will encompass on how to get your settings right for a specific setting, such as photographing birds in flight or photographing otters on the Isle of Mull,  to getting down low on a Yorkshire river to photograph dippers and wagtails.

So why not join me one of these fantastic trips where you will have the chance to get some wonderful images of Wildlife,  have the chance to learn a few new settings on your camera, and methods on how to capture that shot,  as well as having access to over 15 years of professional photography knowledge and experience by your side all day.
